Waverley College Enrolment

Our Lady's Mount & Waterford Campuses
Admission Criteria

All children of parents who are prepared to support the religious principles and ideals of this school are considered eligible for enrolment.

The following applicants will however have a priority over others in admissions:

  • members of the Catholic community
  • sons of Old Boys of the College
  • brothers of those who have attended or are attending the College

As we are a Catholic school, preference is given to Catholic boys who actively practice their faith. However, we do offer places to a small number of Christian families who have had exposure to Catholic teachings and education and meet our admission requirements.

The Headmaster shall determine the year of entry of a boy after appropriate consideration of the Board of Studies rules and the previous progress of the boy.

Children of socially or culturally disadvantaged Catholic families may receive special consideration. For more information, please contact the Enrolment Officer

Admission Policy

A Catholic College

"The Church's involvement in the field of Education is demonstrated especially by the Catholic School. No less than other schools does the Catholic School pursue cultural goals and the natural development of youth. It aims to create for the school community an atmosphere enlivened by the gospel spirit of freedom and charity." (Vatican 11, Decree on Christian Education n.8)

The Catholic Church believes that "the task of imparting education belongs primarily to the family" and that parents "have a primary and inalienable duty and right in regard to the education of their children" (ibid., nn 3 and 6). Furthermore, parents have the duty "to send their children to Catholic Schools whenever this is possible". (ibid., n.8)

Waverley College was established in 1903 by the Religious Congregation of Christian Brothers to meet the needs of Catholic families for the education of their sons.

A School in the Edmund Rice Tradition

The Christian Brothers were founded by Edmund Ignatius Rice in Waterford, Ireland in 1802.

"Our Catholic Colleges, Schools and other Centres offer us privileged opportunities for the evangelisation and care of youth. In the tradition of our Founder, we are pastorally concerned for all our students, but especially for those who are most deprived. We are constantly challenged in our education apostolate to develop a curriculum which promotes the harmonious growth of the whole person - a synthesis of faith, life and culture." (Constitutions of the Christian Brothers, n.28)

The Trustees of the Christian Brothers administer the College on behalf of the Christian Brothers (Oceania Province).

An Independent College

The Headmaster is appointed by Edmund Rice Education Australia (EREA).

The College Board, which is constituted from members selected from the wider community, acts in an advisory capacity to the Headmaster.

Being independent, enrolments to the College are not limited by zoning boundaries.

The Headmaster is a member of the Association of Heads of Independent Schools of Australia (AHISA). The Director of the Junior School is a member of the Independent Primary School Heads of Australia (IPSHA).

The College is one of the six Combined Associated Schools of NSW (CAS).

The College believes that it must be involved in the total development of all its students: spiritual, intellectual, aesthetic, physical, social and emotional. It is the policy of the College that its students can be involved with the school far beyond the boundaries of the classroom and the school day. It therefore provides for and requires students to be involved in organised sport, performing arts, music and other cocurricular activities.
