Stage 3

Years 5 & 6

The Junior School offers an holistic education in religious Education - we follow the program, all Key Learning Areas, as well as regular lessons in Music, Art, Physical Education, Library Skills and the language of German. Specialist secondary teachers conduct lessons in PE and German. The Junior School has a modern well-equipped computer room and the boys have regular class computer lessons with a specialist teacher as well as opportunities to use the computers before school and at lunch time.

There is a Literacy and Numeracy Program to enable each student to improve and extend his skills. The boys are tested and put into appropriate Maths groups of different sizes according to their ability.

Religious Education

Central to the Religious Education program of the College are the religious education lessons. All students participate in these classes. They are organised under the control of a Coordinator. The subject matter is put together by the teachers concerned under the direction of the Coordinator. We have regular prayer services and Eucharistic celebrations.

From time to time individual RE classes and Year groups attend special celebrations as part of the Liturgical program of the College. The Annual College Procession in honour of Our Lady is held on the first Sunday in May. This is a compulsory attendance function for all students at the College.

Homework Policy

It is the policy of this College to set regular homework in all subjects. Homework tasks usually involve one or more of the following:

  • Set work based on the daily work in the subject.
  • A task related to revision of the day's lesson and/or some past work - this might be revision for a test for example.
  • Major assignments and tasks, which need to be worked on over a lengthy period. The student needs to budget his time for such a task and record this in the diary, otherwise rushed last-minute efforts are made with little benefit to the student.

Work that is poorly presented or reveals little effort on the part of the student may be required to be presented again.

A consistent disregard of homework tasks will be considered a serious matter.

A guide to recommended times for homework.

These times indicate the amount of time the average student would need to spend on home study if he wished to keep up with his work.

Years 5 & 6: 45 minutes to 1 hour (4 times a week).
