Preliminary Year 1U English Extension I
Students study at least two units of English in Year 11. They study Standard or Advanced English. In addition to Standard, the Fundamentals of English course may be undertaken. In addition to Advanced, the Extension course may be undertaken.
The course has one mandatory section: Module: Texts, Culture and Value. The course requires students to examine a key text from the past and its manifestations in one or more popular cultures. Students also explore, analyse and critically evaluate different examples of such appropriations in a range of contexts and media.
In the Preliminary English (Extension) Course, students explore how and why texts are valued in and appropriated into a range of contexts. They consider why some texts may be perceived as culturally significant.

Assessment Information
Students will be assessed on a range of skills including seminar presentation, prepared and unseen writing tasks, the collation of research materials, as well as examination tasks.
