Preliminary Year 2U Music I

Music I provides students with opportunities to engage in a range of musical styles, including contemporary popular music. It assumes no prior knowledge of musical notation beyond the basic introduction in Year 7 Music. Students study the concepts of music: duration, pitch, dynamics and expressive techniques, tone colour, texture and structure, through performance, composition, musicology and aural activities within a range of styles.

  • Music of the 18th century
  • Music of the 19th century
  • Music of the 20th and 21st centuries
  • Music for radio, film, television and multimedia
  • An instrument and its repertoire
  • Technology and its influence on music
  • Music for large ensembles

Assessment Information

Completion of Assessment Tasks distributed equally across the following activity areas:

  • Aural
  • Composition
  • Musicology
  • Performance
  • Elective study
