Global Learning & Immersions
Global Learning
Students at Waverley College are encouraged to extend their learning beyond the classroom through opportunities that connect academic study with real-world cultural experiences. Cultural tours, exchanges and international programs allow students to immerse themselves in new environments, deepen their subject knowledge and develop a broader understanding of the world.
These experiences foster independence, confidence and cultural awareness, while enabling students to apply their classroom learning in authentic global contexts.
Cultural and Academic Tours
Waverley offers a range of tours designed to complement academic and creative pursuits, including:
- Spain Language and Art Tour - Students studying Spanish and Art travel through cities such as Barcelona, Madrid, Granada, Córdoba and Seville, participating in language lessons, art experiences and cultural activities including flamenco and cooking classes.
- European Music Tour - Waverley musicians perform across Europe while exploring the rich musical heritage of cities such as Munich, Salzburg, Vienna, Padua, Lausanne and Milan. Students from ensembles including Choir, Concert Band, Jazz Ensembles, Guitar Ensemble and Rock Bands take part in performances and cultural visits.
- Japanese Exchange Tour - Students traveled to Japan to experience daily life and school culture through exchange programs with partner schools.
Sporting Tours
Sporting tours are an important part of the Waverley experience, giving students the opportunity to represent the College while travelling interstate and overseas. These tours combine high-level competition with cultural immersion, helping students build teamwork, resilience and global awareness.
Recent opportunities include:
- Manchester City Football Tour (UK & Europe) - Students in the College’s Manchester City Football Program trained at official club facilities and experienced professional coaching environments while travelling through Europe.
- New Zealand Rugby Tour - Waverley rugby players competed against leading New Zealand schools while experiencing the country’s strong rugby culture and traditions.
Immersions
Immersion give students the opportunity to engage with communities in Australia and overseas while developing a deeper understanding of service, social justice and global citizenship. These experiences encourage students to step outside their comfort zones, build empathy and gain valuable perspective through meaningful cultural exchange.
Cambodia Immersion
Our Cambodia Immersion offers students a profound journey of service, reflection and personal growth. Over two weeks, our students engage with local communities, learn from Cambodia’s inspiring resilience, and contribute to meaningful projects such as building toilets for families, supporting children’s homes and teaching in local schools. Away from their comfort zones, students develop empathy, humility and a deeper understanding of global inequality. Most importantly, they return home transformed - more aware, more compassionate, and more grounded in their responsibility to contribute positively to the world.

Timor-Leste Immersion
The Timor-Leste Immersion invites students into a vibrant and resilient culture, where they learn through genuine connection and shared daily life. By staying with local families, supporting learning in village schools, and engaging with communities shaped by a challenging history, students gain a deeper understanding of gratitude, humility and global inequality. Free from technology and immersed in unfamiliar routines, they discover their own adaptability, forge strong friendships and develop a renewed appreciation for the opportunities they enjoy at home. The experience nurtures confidence, empathy and a broader worldview, leaving students changed in meaningful and lasting ways.

Fiji Immersion
Our Fiji Immersion invites students into the heart of village life, where community, generosity and joy shape every moment. Living simply alongside local families, students take part in cultural traditions, support school communities, and experience first-hand the strength of Fijian values. Daily interactions with children, shared meals, and time spent learning and contributing reveal a way of life grounded in connection rather than material comfort. Through this immersion, students return home with a renewed understanding of what it means to live with purpose, community and an open heart.
Bowraville Immersion
Each year, alongside our companions from St Pius X College, students take part in an Immersion to Bowraville. This experience provides a meaningful opportunity to learn from local Aboriginal educators about the culture, language and history of Australia’s First Nations peoples.
In partnership with St Mary's Primary School, students assist with breakfast preparation, classroom learning, maintenance projects and collaborative artwork. Central to the immersion is dedicated time for reflection, where shared experiences are deepened and lifelong learnings are shaped - grounded in our Touchstones of Justice and Solidarity, Inclusive Community, Gospel Spirituality and Liberating Education.
